Support Can Be Exhausting

This last week was a write-off. Sort of. A bit. Not really.

In the past few weeks I have:

  • Traveled to Vancouver with my daughter.

  • Took on a larger leadership role on the board of directors I have been involved with for many years.

  • Been elected to the board of directors of a large national not for profit.

  • Been elected to the board of directors of a small national not for profit.

  • Started a new job.

  • Supported youth in my area to get gender affirming apparel.

  • Guest lectured at the local community college.

  • Hosted a series of pop-ups so people have local access to gender gear in their own communities.

  • Started a certificate course from an Ivy League university.

I'm energized and excited about all of these things, but I'm TIRED. My brain moves a mile a minute these days and I am constantly worried I'm going to miss something. Or say something stupid.

So what am I doing for self-care? I am terrible at it, and I'm sure I'm not alone. I have tried to build in specific tasks so I don't burn out, but it's not easy. Instead of taking care of myself in good ways I find myself crashing and zoning out of everything. My daughter, Lily, is really good at reminding me to be kind to myself. She sees me, she knows me, and she isn't afraid to call me out when I need it. It's awesome to live with someone like that! I am so lucky. She cuts my hair, makes nice treats and talks to me about the choices I make.

It's Monday, and a good day to start new things. This week I'm making a commitment to myself to make healthy choices around diet and exercise, and also to set some boundaries for myself.

What do you do for self-care? Send me your suggestions. Honestly, I can use all the help I can get!
